A planning aid, not a navigation system

Calmer Roads helps you prepare a trip. It is not a navigation system and has no live data on road closures, weather, snow, rockfall, roadworks, events or traffic. Routes are suggestions calculated on a simplified road network; times and distances are estimates for a normal car without stops.

Ratings are opinions

Verdicts such as easy, take care or confident drivers only, and the scores for difficulty, width and beauty, are subjective editorial assessments. They assume a dry summer day, normal traffic and an ordinary passenger car. Rain, snow, darkness, traffic, a larger vehicle or less experience can make any road much harder.

Information can be wrong or out of date

Season dates, closures, bans, vehicle limits, prices and booking rules are taken with care from official and other sources and dated where possible. They change, often at short notice, and we cannot guarantee that any of it is correct, complete or current when you travel.

You are the driver

Road signs, traffic lights, instructions from the police and other authorities, and the traffic rules in force always take priority over anything on this site. Check official traffic information before you set off, compare your vehicle's real length, width, height and weight with the signs, and turn back if a road feels beyond your limits or your vehicle's. Do not use this site while driving.

Links to Google Maps, partners, booking sites and official bodies lead to third-party services. We do not control their content. Google Maps may route you over a different road from the one suggested here; follow the road and its signs, not the app.

Liability

We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and under the German Product Liability Act.

For slight negligence we are liable only if we breach an essential obligation, that is, an obligation whose fulfilment makes the proper use of the service possible in the first place and on which you may regularly rely. In that case our liability is limited to the typical damage foreseeable when the contract was made. For information provided free of charge, liability for slight negligence is excluded, except for injury to life, body or health.

Beyond this, we accept no liability for the accuracy, completeness or timeliness of the information, or for damage arising from its use, in particular for damage to vehicles, fines, tolls, detours, missed bookings or lost time.
